Main project objectives: The design and manufacture of a smart wearable insole with integrated foot pressure measurement sensors and other micro-electronic devices, which will be based on a completely different architecture compared to existing approaches, achieving both an improvement in sensitivity and a significant reduction of the price. At the same time, the accompanying software will provide easy-to-use analysis and visualization tools of the complex gait data.
Specifically, the projects aims to:
- design and manufacture a new wearable sensor for measuring gait features by innovating in architectural design, sensitivity, and manufacturing cost.
- develop intelligent spatiotemporal signal analysis and automatic learning algorithms, and computational techniques to estimate gait patterns and quantify its parameters.
- develop predictive risk assessment models of specific risks (falls in the elderly) or disease progression (Parkinson's).
Successful completion of the objectives will:
- create a new product, technologically differentiated from the existing, able to compete successfully in the international market.
- design and evaluate new electronic services, made possible by the innovation of the wearable sensor, which are addressed to large numerically sized markets, with confirmed, unmeet needs.
The successful implementation of the Smart Insole project will create important results that are expected for all the stakeholders, but also for the National Economy. Specifically:
- Participating enterprise partners. The project will help improve their products and lead to the creation of new ones.
- Research partners. Connecting research with the needs of the market and the economy, creating intellectual rights to be exploited & promoting their excellence.
- Users/Citizens. News services, quality of life improvement, reducing care costs.
